GENEROUS JULY

Please support our 'Generous July' fundraising campaign.  The money you fundraise will be used to support St Michael's Church and Delamere School, as we'll be splitting all the monies donated 50/50.

Delamere, is located on Irlam Road in Flixton  and is a school for children aged between 2 and 11 years with learning difficulties and additional complex needs such as autism, physical or sensory impairments.

Rev Huw has recently sent the letter shown below to the members of our congregation, and we'd be delighted if the wider community of Flixton also got involved in our 'Generous July' fundraising campaign.  If you'd like to share a copy of the letter a PDF copy is provided below.

Dear friends

We have been looking at ideas to raise money for our beautiful Church during these difficult times when there are so few activities taking place within our buildings.  We also want to continue our tradition of supporting important local good causes.  Therefore, we have decided to donate 50% of what is raised to Delamere School.

Our Fundraising Committee have come up with four wonderful ideas for our ‘Generous July’ campaign.  We would like to encourage you, and your families and friends, to either get involved and take part, or alternatively you could sponsor someone who is.

The fundraising ideas are shown below:

  1. If people feel able there are a number of costs we are all saving at the moment, such as - petrol, eating/drinking out, haircuts, etc.  Each month, why not consider giving 10% of those savings to St Michael’s church.

  2. Why not produce a piece of artwork?  Once we are out of lockdown we could do an art display in church of all the work created and people could pay a donation to view the paintings and other artworks.

  3. Sponsored 100 laps of the garden, either walking or running.

  4. Sponsored 100 step climb up the flight of stairs in your house, which is the equivalent to the height of the Eiffel Tower.

We’d like suggest the two sponsored ideas could be completed by Friday 31st July, if possible, and donations can be sent directly by using our donations page.  Please add a personal message, including the words 'Generous July' and the name/names of the people you are supporting, when making your donation.

A digital Gift Aid declaration can also be completed, if the donor is a UK taxpayer.  This will increase the value of the donations received by 25%, at no extra cost!

I find the following words from St Anselm of Canterbury deeply moving, as they focus on his own conversation with God about giving.  I’d like to encourage us all to use it during our own personal prayers as we try to encourage a generous giving and fundraising community to create a thriving St Michael’s Church.

“I owe you more than my whole self, but I have no more, and by myself I cannot render the whole of it to you.  Draw me to you, Lord, in the fullness of your love.  I am wholly yours by creation; make me all yours, too, in love.”

We wanted to let you know about this first, so you can get a head start on everyone else and give the Generous July campaign a flying start!  A dedicated page on our website will launched in the next couple of days, and it will be supported with an article in our weekly newsletter and our social media posts.  If you can, please share the details with your family and friends.

Please join our fundraising community – Billy and I are already underway with our challenges, as is Rev Fiona and her family.  We’d be delighted if you joined us too!

With my blessings and thanks

Rev Huw
